Forestry Sector Capacity Development Project in Lao PDR

Summary
The overall goal of the project is to promote sustainable forest resources management in GOL. To achieve the overall goal, the project focused on two objectives, one is improvement of the capacity for formulating plans, policies, and institutional framework for forestry sector management including REDD+ and another is improvement of the capacity for managing implementation of selected strategic policies, which indentified as high priority in the FS2020, climate change strategy, and MAF 5 year plan (2011-2015).
The project has two outputs. Output 1: Capacity of DOF for formulating plans, policies, and institutional framework for forestry sector management including REDD+ is improved. Output 2: Capacity of DOF for managing implementation of selected strategic policies, which identified as high priority in the FS 2020, Climate Change Strategy, and the MAF 5 year plan (2011-2015), is improved.
Activities of FSCAP for 2010/2011 include assisting Provincial Forestry Sections in formulating provincial 5 year and annual work plans, coordinating REDD+ related activities and preparation of REDD+ implementation, participating in regional and international workshops and meetings, developing a model of boundary demarcation of three forest categories and disseminating forestry law and regulations to local authorities and other stake holders in provinces.
