Vietnam: National technical staff training on allometric equations

From 18- 22 June, 2012, under the supports of UN-REDD Vietnam Programme, more than 40 technical staff, working for the key forestry institutes, universities and related forestry agencies of Vietnam and Indonesia gathered in Hanoi to participated training course on Allometric Equations (AE). This is an important activity contributing to develop MRV system of forestry sector.
The objective of the training course was to provide knowledge and skills for technical staff on the development of the AEs for calculating forest biomass.
In the first day Vietnam and Indonesia teams introduced and shared experiences on REDD+ implementation, forest classification as well as status of AEs development of each country. In the second day, two facilitators, Matieu and Laurent introduced an overview on procedure of AE development and gave some case studies. More than haft time of the training, under the guidance of the facilitators, the participants were divided in to small group discussed deeply on procedures and technical skills on building and selecting AE as well as practiced on building interim allometric models for calculating forest biomass.
